Capote was the darling of the New York literary and social scene until he turned on even his closest friends, including them as thinly disguised characters in his novel in progress, ANSWERED PRAYERS, which was still unfinished when he suddenly died (at the home of Johnny Carson's ex-wife yet) in 1984.
